About

The Beauty Botanic Garden researches and manages the precious herbal ingredients infused in every product from THE WHOO. Implementing the latest biotechnology, the PLACE-based facility maximizes the effectiveness of our skincare ingredients through expert cultivation techniques and sustainability practices. The garden also meticulously manages hundreds of plant species through resource banking1), DNA barcoding, and ingredient analysis.

1) Resource Banking is our resource bank facilitates the long-term storage of seeds, which is crucial for the research, conservation, and cultivation of the world’s vital plant resources. The Beauty Botanic Garden preserves more than 140 species of seeds, including indigenous plants, contributing to the preservation of biodiversity in South Korea. In case any plants in the garden face challenges due to weather fluctuations or pests, the seeds stored in the resource bank enable their reproduction and recovery.

    The Cultivation Techniques

Our ingredient selection process is rooted in principles from "Hyang Yak Chae Chwi WolLyeong", a Joseon-era guide to harvesting medicinal herbs. This historical text emphasizes collecting ingredients at their peak potency. Through our research of this guide, we were able to pinpoint that Goldenrod, Hanryeongcho, and Yongdamare—key ingredients in THE WHOO’s products—offer optimal skincare benefits when they are collected in July.

    Plant DNA Barcoding

The Beauty Botanic Garden utilizes DNA analysis to identify different species of flowers, herbs, and other botanicals to help protect and increase global biodiversity. This technique also ensures every plant extract added to our skincare formulas is safe, sustainable, and of the highest quality.
