Detailed Design of the Imperial Youth State Honors Speciality Set
-
Master Choi’s artwork for the 2022 Imperial Youth State Honors Speciality Set was inspired by the Ojoryong (a five-clawed dragon), which traditionally decorated clothing worn by kings and queens during the Joseon Dynasty. Her golden embroidery work features this motif alongside the Ten Symbols of Longevity, including the sun, clouds, water, rocks, mountains, pine trees, bamboo, fungus, turtles, and cranes — all of which represent happiness, prosperity, and eternal youth.
-
Each vessel is adorned with a majestic phoenix, which has been a symbol of immortality throughout Korean history.
-
Delicately intertwining layers of precious golden thread, meticulously embroidered with countless stitches, represent the rigorous dedication necessary to create royal court embroidery. The 2022 Imperial Youth State Honors Speciality Set is truly the epitome of the opulence that the royal family enjoyed throughout the Joseon Dynasty.
